Tonika Johnson partnered with Columbia College’s Development and Alumni Relations, to establish the Tonika Johnson Scholarship for Photography, becoming one of the youngest alumni to create a scholarship for Columbia students. On February 22, 2019, Tonika met the first recipient of her Columbia College Chicago TONIKA JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP for PHOTOGRAPHY. Her name is Nyia Sissac. She is a freshman who grew up on Chicago’s South Side and Tonika believes her work is STUNNING!! Nyia told Tonika, “My main focus with photography and life is to just keep creating art that has a purpose and voice. Would love to end up creating projects that give back to my community!”
